Keeping borders closed for vaccinated people not a ‘sustainable strategy’ against COVID-19 and it’s just inhumane (US-CANADA Border)

After talking and arguing with many people on Twitter about opening the US-CANADA border, it came to my attention that many people have NO idea what they are talking about, and they are referring to some old data to back up their arguments. First, let me clear some points.

We understand that nobody knows when this pandemic ends, and every country is dealing with it differently, but based on recent data and statistic and the existence of the effective vaccine, keeping borders closed for vaccinated people and not letting them reunite with their families and loved ones is just inhumane, and there is no science behind this decision.

On April 19th, CDC announced, less than 6000 Americans have contracted covid after being fully vaccinated which represents just 0.007% of the 84 million Americans with full protection against the virus.

That means 1 in every 14000 thousand vaccinated people can have covid!

Then on April 21st, CDC also said that they still don’t know if someone who is vaccinated can transmit the coronavirus or not but the odds are less than 10%!

Now let’s talk about the false-negative rate of the covid test. After 5,000 repeat tests of individuals who were positive with COVID-19, the investigators determined that in about 10% of cases, a false-negative was given. This means there is a 10% chance that someone has covid but their test is showing a false negative.

Now let’s imagine that CANADA announces that people who are fully vaccinated can fly to Canada if they show a negative covid test. In that case, if everything goes wrong, there is a 1 in 1,400,000 chance that the person who is entering the country has covid and that person is going to be a threat to Canada or lovely Canadians. (let’s even assume that those infected people do not even quarantine themselves. Because If there is home quarantine that means that even less risk of spread is present. Because that tiny percentage that slips through are still isolating.)

Also based on the government’s data, less than 2% of Canada’s covid cases are travel-related but do you know why? Because more than 97% of the people who are traveling to Canada right now are not vaccinated and Canada’s border was open until yesterday to many hotspot countries such as India and Pakistan.

Keeping thousands of vaccinated people from reuniting with their loved ones after 14 months doesn’t make any sense, and the government should reopen its border to us as soon as possible.

At this point government officials need to quit using international travel as a scapegoat when even Justin Trudeau has admitted that the rise in cases and the problem lies within community spread.

We are not the problem because as an international traveler, we have to take a covid test prior to boarding , at the airport, and again on day 8 of quarantine as well as quarantine for 14days and record everyday via the ArriveCAN App. So please stop supporting closed border policy, and join us in this fight.
